PUBLIC TOURSFree public tours must be scheduled in advance by contacting the Education Coordinator, Shannon Rossomando, at 520-299-9191, 800-545-2185, or education@degrazia.org. Scheduled tours of the 10-acre foothills site explore the art and architecture of Ted DeGrazia, including the original home of the prolific artist and his wife Marion, their burial sites, the adobe Mission in the Sun, Gallery in the Sun, and cactus courtyard. Tours last about 90 minutes with 30 minutes outside, so good walking shoes are advised. Allow extra time to watch a 30-minute documentary about the artist and to visit the gift shop. Topics include the life, history and philosophy of DeGrazia, as well as art mediums and techniques, Native American legends and ceremonies, desert flora and fauna, and the recycling of objects to create art. For school tours, teachers are responsible for scheduling, organizing transportation, and adequate supervision. Reimbursement for transportation costs may be available from the DeGrazia Foundation. There is a maximum of 35 students per tour, limited to one tour per day. Teachers are encouraged to tell students to bring sack lunches to eat under outside ramadas after the tour. Our busiest time of year is September through March so please schedule a tour as far in advance as possible.
